2/May 2018 -Science A compound is a made of 2 or more elements, chemically bonded together. An element is only made of one type of atom. Mg + O 2 = Mg 0xide Mg + O Mg Oxide Silver/Grey Solid + Transparent colourless gas I observed: As I put the piece of Magnesium on top of the Bunsen burner it took a moment for it to work but then it started to smoke and a bright flash came up and the piece disintegrated into a white powder. The compound we used was Magnesium Oxide.
